A Community Conversation
About the Project
The Municipality of the County of Kings is starting a community conversation about the future of Greenwich. As more people move to the area, we want to look at whether Greenwich could be a good place for more homes and businesses. We also want to make sure we protect what makes Greenwich special — like its farmland, local character, and existing services.
We’re just getting started, and no decisions have been made yet. Over time, we’ll be talking with people who live, work, and farm in the area to hear their ideas and concerns. This is your chance to help shape what happens next in your community.
Background
Greenwich has a rich history as a lively and unique community, with a mix of homes, farms, and businesses. Over the years, it has grown a lot and now has many features that are common in areas planned for growth—like central water and sewer services, sidewalks and trails, and different types of housing.
Lately, more people have shown interest in building homes and mixed-use spaces in Greenwich. Because of this, the Municipality has been looking at different ways to plan for the future of the area. These ideas focus on:
- Creating a compact, walkable, and lively community
- Protecting farmland
- Making the best use of existing services and infrastructure
- Avoiding scattered or inefficient development
Now, Council is thinking about whether the planning rules for Greenwich need to be updated to meet the needs of today and tomorrow. This project will help collect community feedback to guide those decisions and make sure any changes reflect what people want for their community.
Why It Matters
Planning for the future isn’t just about where buildings go—it’s about understanding what matters most to the people who live and work in a community. This process is important because it will:
- Make sure any future development fits the needs and values of the community
- Help the Municipality figure out if—and where—future growth makes sense
- Guide long-term decisions about roads, services, and land use
- Give residents and others a chance to share their ideas, questions, and concerns
- Find the right balance between building new homes and protecting farmland and local character
This is a chance for everyone to explore options together and help shape the future of Greenwich.

Over the next few months, there will be lots of ways for you to share your ideas, ask questions, and give feedback. We’re planning several activities, so everyone has a chance to be part of the conversation.
What’s coming up:
- A community workshop to talk about the future vision for Greenwich
- Online surveys you can fill out from home
- Public open houses
- Small group discussions on specific topics
- Final sessions to check in and ask, "Did we get it right?"
