LAND USE PLANNING
Long and short range planning advice and support is provided to Council through a Planning Advisory Committee concerning a wide variety of issues influencing the growth and development of the Municipality. Since 1979 and the adoption of a municipal-wide municipal planning strategy and land use bylaw, the ongoing challenge has been to balance the needs of a significant resource based economy, particularly related to agriculture, with a consistently growing non-resource based population and economy.
In consultation with other Municipal departments, village commissions and towns as well as outside agencies such as provincial Environment and Transportation departments, planning staff provide advice and technical support concerning such issues as land use policies and regulations; site design; watershed planning; and the development and utilization of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
