Grand Pre and Area Community Plan
The Municipality of the County of Kings began developing a long term plan for the communities of Grand Pré, North Grand Pré, Hortonville, and portions of Lower Wolfville in 2008. The Grand Pré and Area Community Plan defines a vision for these four communities and objectives to both protect the Grand Pré Area as a unique cultural resource and to provide opportunities for tourism.
Council consulted widely with community representatives and the community as a whole in developing the Plan. The Community Plan was also developed in concert with a bid to designate the Landscape of Grand Pré as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was achieved in 2012. The Community Plan’s boundaries differ from those of the World Heritage Site boundaries. It was Council’s belief that the Community Plan should reflect the needs and desire of local community members throughout the four communities.
The Grand Pré and Area Community Plan was adopted by Council on November 18, 2010. It can be found within the County of Kings Municipal Planning Strategy, Section 4.6 – Grand Pré Area.
